End of Life Doula - Quality of Life Care Support
Nicole provides all the non medical support and care of the dying person and family from the first mention of terminal illness through their personal process, needs, fears wants and autonomy - essentially walking people towards the end of life wishes with dignity and autonomy. She also supports the healthy who seek the knowledge to make informed decisions and be exceptional carers and live well. Families often need their own EOL Doula support so they can better serve their own people with strength after respite. There is a sense of stigma and giving up when palliative care is mentioned, or funerals and wishes are ‘NOT’ mentioned for fear of upset, it is with this understanding and experience for over 6 years, that talking with family and friends about impending death can be difficult, Nicole knows this and culturally how this works, so she enters with no judgement and a warm pair of ears and will navigate these compassionate conversations and arrangements in a sensitive way, always acknowledging you are the expert in you and your persons life.
There is also great healing in the importance of these conversations in creating a peaceful pathway, control and steadiness for all. Being self informed, resourced and being open to seeking practical, emotional and physical support in dying, death and bereavement is life affirming.
Pre-planning your ‘in-between’ time, from death to final farewell can ease worries for yourself & also for your family and it can make your wishes very clear surrounding your departure.
Engaging with an End of Life Doula can help guide you in all end of life matters and build a solid foundation in end of life care, awareness, choices, selfcare practices, confidence and personal ease.
The art of accompanying the dying is learned and shared with love dignity and connection. It is personal and nurtured not only for the dying but their family, soulmates, community, social circle and caregivers.
We are all different just like our fingerprints in how we address suffering at the end of life, and how we comfort ourselves and others during this time of life.
Being self informed, reduces the paralysing fear of lack of knowledge, it requires exploring how we think, talk and plan for end of life. Knowing that you are the expert in your own life.
End of Life Doulas join you were you are at offering an extra layer of well being and understanding to you and the people you love.
Nicole supports families in the unfamiliar terrain of dying and creates a sacred space around the dying process and after death continuum of care. The doula model of care is a specialised professional approach to living well while dying and ensuring decisions are made with informed information that dovetails into choice and a meaningful experience. Supporting as little or as much as you need. You are the expert in your life.
